City centre OBCZ walk

(Approx 2.5 miles with three OBCZs to visit)
This will take at least a couple of hours, and maybe longer depend on how long people want to stop at the OBCZs.

Please be aware that the committee are asking that people DO NOT wild release books in the city centre due to security surrounding the Tory party conference which starts the week after Uncon.

On Sunday morning I will be taking a party of around twenty people on an OBCZ book releasing crawl – this could involve cake!

There will be two meeting points:

1. The foyer of the Strathallan hotel at about 10 am for those of us not in cars. You will need £4.00 for a daysaver bus ticket – Birmingham buses do not give change.

2. Birmingham cathedral grounds – for those in cars or coming from elsewhere – at 10.30 am to start our walk (Snow Hill station car park is just a few minutes’ walk from the cathedral and costs £3.50 to park all day on Sundays).

We will not need to take all the books with us – as there are other activities taking place at the same time. Each person could take around five or six books to release around the Jewellery Quarter and in our 3 city centre OBCZs.

We will start our walk by Birmingham’s St. Phillip’s Cathedral and walk away from the city centre through parts of the historic Jewellery Quarter – taking in two of our OBCZs. We will stop for coffee/cake in the first of the OBCZs (one of the two branches of Urban Coffee Company which we will be visiting), release books to the shelves there and perhaps some people might like to give books away to other customers. This is very close to the start of our walk – so you may want to take advantage of coffee etc. and toilets, and save some books for later.

u-logo-small-425x350           We will continue through the Jewellery quarter via St. Paul’s church and on to the second Urban Coffee Company. As well as releasing books, please feel free to take some away. Our walk will take in several ‘blue plaques’ and I am reliably informed that you could find some geocaches, if you are that way inclined! While we are walking through the Jewellery Quarter it might be ok to release a few books as you walk. Books should be bagged up and labelled, and please don’t go mad with the numbers you release.

We will then walk back towards the city centre to our third OBCZ. Do give books to passers-by as we walk! Our third stop is our most recent OBCZ. The management are very keen on Bookcrossing and have made us very welcome. The 3Threes Coffee lounge is a vegan/vegetarian café – selling sandwiches, cakes, and yummy veggie hotdogs, ice cream and a selection of hot and cold drinks. If you didn’t walk with us, you might want to join us for a light lunch here. We will be using their upstairs room for the afternoon, and this will take the place of our September meetup.
